Each year, a poet curates a selection of poetry for display in the waiting areas of
hospitals across the West and Northwest of Ireland. “Poems for Patience” features a diverse collection of reflective and inspiring poems by renowned Irish and
international poets.

Saolta Arts hopes that these poems will offer moments of reflection and hope to
patients, visitors, and staff during both joyful and challenging times. This year, the
poems will be selected and introduced by the poet Alanna Offield, a Chicana from
New Mexico who is now living in the North of Ireland. Her poetry has appeared
in Howl, Cyphers, Abridged, and other publications.

Additionally, the winning poem from the 2025 Saolta Arts Poetry Competition will be included in the Poems for Patience collection. The winner will also have the
opportunity of reading their poem at the launch, introduced by the competition
judge, poet Susan Millar DuMars.

Join us for a heartwarming event that celebrates the power of poetry to uplift and
comfort.
