Open, Heaven is a novel about desire, identity, and the transformative power of first love. Set in a northern English village, it follows James, a shy teen grappling with his sexuality, and Luke, a troubled boy with a dangerous charm. Together, they navigate longing, vulnerability, and self-discovery.
Seán Hewitt is the author of six books, including the poetry collections Tongues of Fire and Rapture’s Road, and the memoir All Down Darkness Wide. He lectures at Trinity College Dublin, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. In 2022, he was awarded the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. Open, Heaven (2025) is his first novel.
