Join us as we begin the 40th Cúirt International Festival of Literature with readings from Sally Rooney and Paul Muldoon in a very special opening event.

 

Paul Muldoon, the current Ireland Professor of Poetry, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and was awarded the 1994 T.S. Eliot Prize and the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. In his trailblazing career spanning over 50 years, he has been described as ‘the most significant English-language poet born since the Second World War.’

 

Sally Rooney is the widely acclaimed author of four novels, her most recent being Intermezzo (Faber & Faber, 2024). Her work has achieved both critical and commercial success, and she is heralded as ‘the voice of a generation’.

 

Come along for a brilliant evening with two of the most significant figures in Irish literature today.

Sally Rooney is an Irish novelist. She is the author of Conversations with Friends, Normal People, Beautiful World, Where Are You and Intermezzo.

Paul Muldoon was born in County Armagh in 1951. He now lives in New York. A former radio and television producer for the BBC in Belfast, he has taught at Princeton University for thirty-five years. He is the author of fifteen collections of poetry including Joy in Service on Rue Tagore, published by FSG and Faber and Faber in 2024. Among his awards are the 1972 Eric Gregory Award, the 1980 Sir Geoffrey Faber Memorial Award, the 1994 T.S. Eliot Prize, the 1997 Irish Times Poetry Prize, the 2003 Pulitzer Prize, the 2003 Griffin International Prize for Poetry, the 2004 American Ireland Fund Literary Award, the 2004 Shakespeare Prize, the 2006 European Prize for Poetry, the 2015 Pigott Poetry Prize, the 2017 Queens Gold Medal for Poetry, and the 2020 Michael Marks Award. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Literature and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

The main auditorium is step free with accessible seating and
accessible toilet facilities. Please let the box office know of any
requirements so that they can assist with seating. There are two
accessible parking spaces on Waterside immediately by the
venue and a further two spaces on Corrib Terrace. There is a
Loop System in every auditorium. There is a Fresh Air Distribution
System. All events at the Town Hall Theatre will be captioned.
