A gently lyrical children’s book based on the storytelling tradition of the Irish Traveller community, DeBhairduin’s tale is about identity, self-acceptance and different ways of seeing the world.
Scéal réidh liriciúil do pháistí bunaithe ar thraidisiún scéalaíochta phobal an Lucht Siúil in Éirinn, is scéal faoi fhéiniúlacht, féinghlactha agus bealaí éagsúla chun an domhan a fheiceáil atá i scéal DeBhairduin.
Oein DeBhairduin is a writer, activist and educator with a passion for preserving the beauty of Traveller tales, sayings, retellings and historic exchanges. Oein is the author of the award-winning Why the moon travels. His other works are Weave, The Slug and the Snail and Twiggy Woman. He is the Traveller Culture Collections Development Officer with the National Museum of Ireland and seeks to pair community activism with cultural celebration, recalling old tales with fresh modern connections and, most of all, he wishes to rekindle the hearth fires of a shared kinship.
Natalie is a Primary School Teacher and multi-instrumentalist from Dublin and a member of traditional Irish bands The Bonny Men and Na Casaidigh. She has a passion for nurturing children’s wellbeing through art whilst sharing her love of Irish with young people. She recently performed in Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde’s acclaimed childrens musical theatre shows Preab Sa Cheol and Polcaphonc.
